No matter what you’re trying to offer online, you need to be able to generate targeted traffic to make sure it gets noticed.

In this article, you’ll find several simple (but effective) traffic generation tips you can use to promote your websites.

Traffic Generation Tip #1 – Turn Blog Posts Into Videos Or Audio

In most cases, you’ll probably have blog content that’s short enough to be read and either turned into a slide video (text displayed as you read it), or kept as raw audio and turned into a podcast.

There are two benefits to doing this:

1. If someone coming to your blog isn’t a reader, they will have another way to consume your content.
2. You can promote these different forms of media on sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, or even start your own podcast show and distribute tips through iTunes.

The latter is a great way to expand your reach and generate extra traffic.

Traffic Generation Tip #2 – Create Short Reports And Give Them Away

You can either start from scratch and create a new report that others can download for free, and have rights to give it away to friends.

Or, if you don’t have any ideas or time to research and write, you can also take a bunch of blog posts and compile them into a PDF file to use as your giveaway.

Be sure to include your link and let others know that they can give the reports to others, and you’ll be able to generate extra traffic.

Traffic Generation Tip #3 – Write Blog Posts As A Guest For Other Blogs

If you’re struggling to get yourself established, you can ask to write for blogs that are relevant to yours and have already built a following.

Typically, the article you write will include an author bio box, or “resource box”, which will let readers know a little about you…including the link to your website.

Traffic Generation Tip #4 – Write Keyword-Rich Content

Use tools like Google’s Keyword Research Tool, to see what people are searching for in your niche.

Sometimes, focusing on long-tail keywords will make it easier for you to rank for that particular search phrase.

Although it may take a little time to start generating traffic as a result of your content, the long-term benefit of getting ranked highly in the search engines and generating organic traffic is huge.

Traffic Generation Tip #5 – Start An Affiliate Program

If you have a product or service available on your site, consider adding an affiliate program for others to promote for you and earn a commission for each sale.

If you’re using wordpress, you might consider the free wordpress affiliate plugin that’s available.

Of course, if you’re willing to pay, there are more robust solutions available.

Traffic Generation Tip #6 – Pirate Yourself

If you have created some sort of product that contains affiliate links and you want a quick way to make it spread, one out-of-the-box way of doing so it to upload it to various file sharing sites.

Although this is a hit-or-miss strategy, many people frequent these sites, which creates a lot of potential for viral traffic.
